THE BUILDER BEHIND THE WORK
I’m David Hingston, owner of DH Renovation LLC. I help homeowners on the Massachusetts North Shore and in Southern New Hampshire turn repairs, renovation ideas and growing needs into a clear plan.

Actual work from the DH Renovation project collection.
FROM FOUNDATION TO ROOF
I grew up in a blue-collar family, with a father who owned his own business and childhood days spent around construction sites. Building was part of my world long before it became my livelihood. That upbringing gave me an appreciation for practical skills, hard work and the pride that comes from making something with your own hands.
I’m a New England Yankee at heart: resourceful, straightforward and drawn to work that lasts. Those roots shape the way I approach a home—understand what needs fixing, make sensible use of the budget and pay attention to the details.
My experience includes building homes from the ground up, working across the stages that turn a foundation and a set of plans into a finished home. That background shapes how I approach every project at DH Renovation LLC.
I understand how the parts of a house connect: the foundation and framing, the roof and exterior, and the rooms and finishing details inside. Whether we are planning an addition, remodeling a bathroom or building a deck, I look at the work as part of the whole home. What happens behind the finished surface matters just as much as what you see.
My background also includes work as a union roofer, with Sarnafil and EPDM certifications, alongside mold and lead certifications and a Massachusetts Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License. Roofing strengthened my attention to preparation, flashing, transitions and protecting the structure beneath the finish.
Today, I bring that experience to new construction, additions, framing, interior remodeling, roofing, siding, decks and finish carpentry. I stay involved in the conversation, explain the proposed scope and coordinate the appropriate trades. You deserve to understand what we are building, how the stages fit together and where your budget is going.
TRAINING & TRADE BACKGROUND
I hold a Massachusetts Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License. We review the scope and trade responsibilities for each project.
Hands-on roofing experience informs how I approach protection, preparation and the connections between building components.
My roofing training includes Sarnafil and EPDM systems, alongside experience with the details involved in low-slope roofing.
These certifications are part of my training background. If a project raises concerns about existing materials or moisture, we discuss the appropriate assessment and scope before proceeding.
HOW WE WORK WITH HOMEOWNERS
A renovation affects more than a room. It affects your schedule, your household and your budget. My goal is to make the work understandable, with direct conversations and clear expectations.
We begin with what you want to solve, look at practical options and define the proposed work in writing. You can ask questions about the scope, selections and sequence throughout the project.
A NETWORK THAT SUPPORTS THE PROJECT
Our resources include electricians, plumbers, site-work professionals, landscapers and other construction contacts. The scope determines who needs to be involved. Required regulated work is performed by appropriately licensed professionals, with responsibilities discussed as part of the project plan.
That coordination matters when a bathroom needs more than tile, an addition needs site preparation before framing, or an outdoor improvement connects carpentry, grading and finishes. We help look at the sequence as a whole.
BIG IMPROVEMENTS CAN START SMALL
If your layout works, new finishes, flooring, a vanity or focused carpentry may be worth discussing before a complete remodel.
Separate must-haves from optional upgrades. We can compare material choices and discuss phasing where the work can be separated sensibly.
Preparation, disposal, protection and related repairs should be visible in the scope. A useful estimate helps you compare what you are getting.
